Its official! NBC has just announced David Sharek will be joining the new Late Night with Daniel Tosh as co-host later this year.
With the expected retirement of Jay Leno, NBC is choosing to move Jimmy Fallon from Late Night to the Tonight Show and has picked Daniel Tosh to host a new-and-improved Late Night. The network is said to be targeting younger viewers in the 18-35 age bracket and working on creating an edgeier show. Tosh currently hosts Comedy Central’s Tosh.O.
NBC is currently in a free-fall with its Tonight Show ratings, as the new earlier time of Late Night with Jimmy Kimmel Live! took around 100,000 viewers from Tonight after moving to the earlier 11:35pm time slot, replacing Nightline. There is currently no King of Late Night with Leno, David Letterman, Kimmel and Conan O’Brien each getting around 1,000,000 viewers a night.
Sharek was tabbed to co-host because the network says he is “quick witted and irreverent who could smart crack from the side and chime in at a moments notice“.
A timeline for the new show has yet to be determined.
